Taverna sees its origin in the legendary Greek polis Treis-Chene, founded by settlers from Greece near the Ionian Sea. It is thought that the city was destroyed in the tenth century during the Saracen invasions that led the people to retreat inland, in the most sheltered villages, mountains. the remains of a castle are still visible, a lookout tower and the cathedral, on Mount Paramite Taverna Old, ancient seat dell'Episcopio moved by Callisto Papa II in 1122, in Catanzaro.
