Holiday in Campania: sea and ancient culture

The holiday in Campania, in one of the many villages or in a hotel, is an unmissable opportunity to discover a whole heritage of beautiful landscapes, cultural and food and wine.

Choosing a destination for your summer holidays, many times means choosing a destination in southern Italy. What better choice if not Campania?

The entire region is facing the Tyrrhenian Sea and all the coastline of Campania, including those of the islands of the Gulf of Naples, are bathed by this sea, which in this area, offers a blue water, of an overwhelming clarity. Access to the sea is guaranteed by long sandy beaches that slope towards the sea and small coves nestled between the wonderful ravines of the uncontaminated Amalfi Coast or Cilento Coast.

Along the several hundred kilometers of coastline there are the main accommodation facilities, villages and hotels, which offer stays that are certainly up to expectations. The main tourist locations in Campania are suitable for all types of tourists, young couples with children, teenagers or older couples.

Campania, however, is absolutely not just sea. Campania witnesses the presence of man for thousands of years and has been the cradle of Italian culture for centuries. In fact, there are hundreds of testimonies on the territory: just think of the world-famous Royal Palace of Caserta or the excavations of Pompeii and Herculaneum.

Baia Domizia and the Royal Palace of Caserta

After crossing the border with Lazio, you will come across the soft and flat territory of Caserta which, starting from the marvelous ancient villages built along the Via Appia, slopes gently towards the domizio coast. Baia Domizia, Baia Felice, Pinetamare, Castelvolturno, Ischitella Lido are the right choice for those who want to go on holiday with children.

Caserta is certainly the most important and deserving city of a visit. Its precious ancient village, called Casertavecchia, is a destination for many tourists throughout the year. Walking among the remains of the ancient urban nucleus, allows you to immerse yourself in history and admire from today's city and the majesty of the Royal Palace of Caserta, the royal palace wanted by King Charles of Bourbon, who, struck by the beauty of territory, decided to build a palace able to hold the comparison with that of Versailles.

Naples

Naples is a wonderful city. It rises on the pedi of an active volcano, the Vesuvius, which rises majestically behind it and overlooks the Gulf of Naples, delimited by the volcanic area of the Campi Flegrei to the north and south by the enchanting Sorrento peninsula.

History, culture, myth and legend come together to create an enchanting city destined to enter straight into the hearts of travelers. The warmth  of the locals is one of the greatest strengths of a city that pleases everyone: from art lovers and lovers of natural landscapes to lovers of typical cuisine.

While visiting the city you can definitely start from Piazza del Plebiscito, symbol of the Neapolitan Renaissance, the Royal Palace and Via Toledo. A jump on the seafront of Mergellina is a must, as are the stops in Castel dell'Ovo and the Maschio Angioino and the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta containing the Treasure of San Gennaro.

There are numerous panoramic views. One above all is the Posillipo hill, from which you can see all the gulf and the unmistakable profile of Mount Vesuvius in the background. The best time of the day is certainly the dawn: seeing the Vesuvius emerge from behind is really a thrilling breath.

Moreover, Naples is the home of street food. Zeppole and panzarotti, fried or wallet pizza, pasta frittatine and so on and so on, give the city the title of "homeland of street food". Walking through the city means being tempted by a triumph of street food, which you can hardly resist.

Arcipelago Campano

To embellish the Gulf of Naples there are three beautiful islands: Capri, Procida and Ischia.

The name of Capri certainly recalls a high-priced and "expensive" tourism, however in recent years there has been a change in trend and the island is becoming increasingly a destination within reach of every wallet. The Blue Grotto, the stop in the famous square, the walk in Via Camerelle and the view from the Gardens of Augustus on the Faraglioni, can no longer be considered a dream reserved for a few.

Ischia is the largest island and certainly the destination with the most important tourist volume of the area. On the island there is one of the highest concentrations of tourist facilities in Italy. There are numerous villages and hotels scattered along the coasts of the island close to the main places of interest: the Aragonese Castle, the Poseidon Gardens, the Negombo, the village of Sant Angelo, the bay of Sorgeto and the many sandy beaches dotted along all the coast.

An experience that certainly unites the three islands is the boat ride. Unmissable, but above all unforgettable.

Sorrento Peninsula and Amalfi Coast

To the south of the Gulf of Naples begins the Sorrento peninsula, in which stand the cities of Vico Equense and Sorrento, which open the doors to the earthly paradise of the Amalfi Coast.

The Sorrento Peninsula marks a large dividing line with the rest of the coast. The influences of European culture (especially English and German) are very evident, especially in Sorrento.

In the town, appreciated mainly by European tourism, Piazza Tasso and Corso Italia (the main course), the Villa Comunale, the Chiostro di San Francesco and the Vallone dei Mulini are definitely unmissable.

But it is bypassing the peninsula that leads to the wonder of wonders. The flagship of the entire region: the Amalfi Coast. Positano, Praiano, Maiori, Minori, Amalfi, Ravello and Vietri are wonderful places that deserve to be visited at least once in life.

The Amalfi Coast is famous all over the world for its beautiful landscapes and the cities that develop along the coast are home to important receptive settlements.

Positano and Amalfi do not need any introduction: celebrated from time immemorial, they attract thousands of tourists from all over the world every year, who promptly admire and admire the Duomo's staircase.

Maiori and Minori, located at the center of the coast, have long sandy beaches and are a strategic choice to visit the entire coast.

Ravello, which stands in the hills, offers with its villas, one of the most beautiful panoramic views in the world: the famous Infinity Terrace.

Vietri, one step away from Salerno, is famous for handmade ceramics. Real heritage of Italian manufacturing culture.

Do not miss the "Cammino degli Dei" and the typical products of the local gastronomic culture: limoncello or Cetara anchovies. For the sweet tooth, we recommend a stop at the Sal De Riso pastry shop in Minori.

Paestum and Cilento

Proceeding southwards, the Lattari Mountains, which give life to the Amalfi Coast itself, leave space for a long sandy beach that extends from Salerno to Agropoli: the Cilento. Along this coast hundreds of hotels are concentrated, especially for young families with small children.

At the end of the promenade rises one of the most famous cities in Italy under the archaeological profile: Paestum, which with its famous Archaeological Park opens its doors to the Natural Park of Cilento.

From Agropoli to Marina di Camerota we find one of the most beautiful coasts of the entire region. Dozens of coves guarantee access to the sea in absolute relaxation. Especially in the area of Palinuro, to see absolutely, the Bay of Good Sleep, the Natural Arch of Palinuro and Baia Infreschi.
