Halfway along the ancient and modern streets between Florence and Rome, the territory of Orvieto is now being formed by the communes of the district: Allerona, Baschi, Castelgiorgio, Castelviscardo, Ficulle, Fabro, Monteleone, Montegabbione, Montecchio, Parrano, Porano, San Venanzo, and, of course, Orvieto. Historically, the territory of Orvietan had a larger dimension, especially in medieval times, when with the city-state of Urbsvetus it reached the largest extension, along a cross-section that came from the Tiber to the Tyrrhenian Sea. Today it is part of the Umbria Region, but the ancient traditions of Orvietano were not cut off at Lazio and South Tuscany; the ties are still tight from the point of view of tourism. The current Orvietano Circondario, served by the most modern communication routes (the Highway of the Sun and the most direct Rome-Florence), extends into a hinterland where from the characteristic volcanic landscape, with ravaged basaltic and tufacee formations, you pass the gentle hills and the plains of alluvial nature, from the clayey hills to the first mountainous outposts of the Aventine. An interesting and varied landscape where nature has remained uncontaminated in the vast wooded outcrops and where the work of man has intervened with the wise cultures of the fields, first of all the ancient one of the vine, for the production of the famous Orvieto wine. Human intervention also manifests itself in the many centers scattered in the green of the countryside, starting from the hamlets of the town of Orvieto, all villages that originated in medieval times
