Terme Vigliatore and surroundings

The village of Terme Vigliatore has ancient roots; we know that its sulphurous waters, in particular those of the Fons Veneris (Source of Venus), were already known in Roman times. Vigliatore takes its name from the nearby river of the same name (called Vigilator in Roman times) and the thermal baths in the area. This whole area was part of the municipality of Castroreale, from which it separated on June 28, 1966 (at which date the long road perpendicular to the town was dedicated), constituting the independent municipality of Terme Vigliatore, which incorporates the various villages. The municipal seat is in the former Castroreale Terme, an area where there are the famous thermal establishments for the treatment of respiratory, cutaneous and liver diseases and of the second part of the second half of the 1st century BC Villa Romana located in the hamlet of S.
